Kenya Pig Breads


Kenya has 4 main pigs bread,

-Large White
-Landrace
-Duroc
-Hampshire

I will share with you some of my research on the uses of this breads shortly and precise

Large White



Very Available, this is the bread that most people know as a pig.
Erect ears with a long body
Sows give birth to 10-12 piglets
Late maturity, High maternal instincts, takes really good care of their young
High lean meat

Landrace


When you think bacon production this is your pig
Excellent Ham development
Best for small systems because of their good temperament.
They will be characterized with fallen ears and straight snout
Sows get very big piglets and gain(ADH) weight very rapidly 10-13 piglets.
Used to produce high-quality hybrid gilts

Duroc


I personally prefer this bread because of its good physic.
medium length and quite muscular late-maturing type
The Duroc sow makes a good maternal instincts litter size is 10-15 and note
 the boars are known to be aggressive.
Known to be the sweetest hogs in the world.
Survive the extreme cold temperatures.

Hampshire


They are large, black and white especially ears also large and erect
Good temperament, fast growth rate and large
Litters usually between 8-14 piglets
Sows make excellent mothers.
