When thinking about rearing pigs like a pro the ultimate goal is keeping the animal health to make you wealthy and speak volumes about your farm. I could leave it at that. It's simple and it works like a pro.
To start with, I love pigs, they are funny they are smarter than dogs, yes smarter and are good to almost all who keep them.
In all this research you will find that a happy pig is a healthy pig and I will share with you ways to help you understand the animal and get good profits from this venture.

Anyone walking to your farm big or small can tell how committed you are through the way you set up and organize your farm. They trust you better and if they want to buy, they buy your price not the market price. Yes everyone wants a good bid and they also want a guarantee of the animal's health. The following picture shows 2 farms, choose from who to buy pigs.

Farm A provides different places for the pig to choose farm B chooses for the pig, unfortunately, choosing wrong.

Now lets dive into the how-to keep pigs like a pro.
If you're new to this you have heard that pigs eat anything from dirt to garbage and so on. However, it doesn't say they eat harmful and life-threatening bacteria, disastrous worms to keep them healthy, of course not. Don't be hoodwinked, don't be fooled...What you invest in the pig is what you will get from the pig. With good feeds, pigs reach slaughter size in 5-6 months. Poor feeds mean longer time frame to gain expected weight, that where losses kick in.
Pigs are NOT ruminants like cows goats, sheep and so the stomach of a pig is the same as that of a human.

"Don't feed them what you wouldn't eat"

Pigs will eat crumbs and food remains but they have to be properly handled. Back in the day when my mum used to stuff us with food "tukue wakubwa" (we grow big) she used to say, "siunimalizie hii chakula" (finish my food for me), we would each help her with her crumbs and remains This is the mentality to have.

As greedy as a pig - hahaha am happy to tell you that is not the case.

Pigs love to eat as all animals however when they are full, you will not find them eating, you'll find them sleeping.

The key to good pigs husbandry is  Hygiene and proper Feed.

Pigs are also famous for wallowing in dirt and dirty water, actually, they love this, some go to the extent of sleeping in their own poop. Will discuss this behaviour in a later article.
Now, these are the behaviours we need to know as professional pig farmers. These behaviours make pigs happy because they are natural behaviours and that's how they are wired.

"A system can be built wrong but the animal behaviour is never wrong"

Remember this as we will be using this information to build a natural pigpen in the structural page.
